The facility will house the company’s IS Cyber security center and advanced analytics hub.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who is leading a high-profile delegation to India from his state, has announced that Wipro will set up a new technology center in Plano, Texas.
The announcement was made during a visit to the India technology giant’s headquarters in Electronic City, Bangalore.
According to an official press release, Wipro will use the Texas Technology Center to develop new capabilities in emerging technologies for its clients in the United States.
The facility will initially recruit 15 employees and will house Wipro’s IS Cyber security center and advanced analytics hub.
Wipro already also has major operations in Dallas and Houston and plans to increase the number of jobs in the state from 1,400 to over 2,000 in the next few years.
“With more than 1,400 employees in Texas and major operations now in Plano, Dallas and Houston, Wipro is playing an important role in the Texas economy,” said Abbott. “From investing in the future of the Texas communities to supporting us in the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, Wipro is a valued partner in Texas. I thank Wipro for their investments in the Lone Star State, and today’s visit to their headquarters in Bengaluru will serve to fortify our already strong partnership.”
Abidali Z. Neemuchwala, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Wipro Limited, said, “Our technology center in Plano is the latest milestone in our growing operations in Texas, and is testament to the local talent pool and the robust support offered by the state to the technology sector. As a company with a sizeable presence in the state and a deep relationship with the local community, we are committed to delivering best-in-class services to our clients, hiring locally and contributing to STEM education to create a better future for all.”
Last year, Wipro announced that it will acquire US-based design and business strategy consultancy firm Cooper to bolster the design and innovation capabilities of the company’s digital design arm.
Headquartered in Bengaluru, Wipro has 200 offices and facilities outside India. Earlier this year, the company had announced that more than 50% of its employees in the US are local hires.
Earlier, Indian IT giant Infosys had announced that it will set up a $21 million regional center in Hartford, Connecticut, and will hire 1,000 employees over a period of four years.
