Recently the actress has lobbed serious accusations against powerful men in the film business.
Indian actress Sree Reddy staged a protest against the alleged trend of ‘casting couch’ in the Telugu film industry.
The actress was the first in the Telugu film industry to respond to #MeToo-type moments that the country has seen. She has raised her voice against the sexual harassment of women in the film industry.
On Saturday the actress marched to the office of the film commission and she started removing her clothes and stood there in front of the office half-naked by covering her breasts with her hands.
The actress alleged that her protest is against the Movie Artist Association (MAA) on the existing “casting couch” trend in the film industry.
She said that the producers and directors are giving opportunities to artists from cities like Mumbai and Chennai, and they are denying the local heroines.
“The reason is simple. Heroines from other states would go to any extent to satisfy the big people in Tollywood, whereas the local artists are not so bold,” she said. “This is how the producers and directors are responding to the girls who are looking for opportunities in the film industry.”
Sree Reddy is not a popular actress in India and she has acted in just 3 films. She has staged her protest in Hyderabad – a city which is not as buzzing as Mumbai when it comes to the movie industry. Reportedly, MAA has denied her its membership because she questioned the wrongdoings in the film industry.
“I will make it a big issue at the national and international level, if my demands are not met,” she said.
Later the police came to know about the protest and took the actress into custody and charged her for public nudity. She refused to lodge a formal complaint about her grievances against the film industry.
“She said she is denied opportunities. We assured her that we would take action if she gives us specific complaint. But, she is reluctant,” a senior police officer said.
