In a strongly-worded video message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an Indian American girl of Tamil origin has said that she will never visit India again for summer vacations as she is reading news about children and woman being raped in India every other day.
The video message to Modi starts with the girl saying that she is an American but she is truly a “Tamil Indian by heart.” She says that she has visited India as a baby, and despite the heavy traffic, the people were nice and the food was great.
She continues, “Now, I’m hearing news and reading through Facebook that woman and children in India are raped and murdered every other day.” She then gives the example of the recent brutal rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl Asifa in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The girl was kidnapped by a six-member gang and was tortured and raped repeatedly inside a temple.
The Indian American girl then calls Prime Minister Modi to take action against those people who incite such violence. “Prime Minister we have to make sure that this stuff stops and India is now safe for woman and children,” says the girl.

The 1 minute 6 second video concludes with the girl saying that she has asked her father not to take her to India for summer vacations as she is worried about her safety in the country.
The recent rape and murder of the 8-year-old has stirred wide-spread protest across India with many questioning the Modi-led government for not fulfilling its campaign promise to end crime against women and children.
In another incident, a rape victim’s father was killed in police custody after he leveled an allegation against a ruling Bhartiya Janatha Party (BJP) MLA from the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The video of the Indian American girl, whose identity is yet to be revealed, is an indication that the emotions are high even among Indians living abroad over the rising number of attacks on women and children in India and the government inaction.
