The alleged assault took place after she booked a ride.
An Indian American cab driver working with the taxi hiring app Lyft was arrested by Fremont police after a woman rider accused him of rape.
According to police, 24-year-old Jaswanthreddy Baireddy, who is facing sexual assault charges, allegedly assaulted the victim after he gave her a ride last month.
The victim told police that she booked Baireddy’s cab via Lyft to visit a friend’s house, but on reaching there she found the friend was not home.
Baireddy had picked her from Oakland and drove her to Berkley. When the victim requested the driver to drop her off to her home, he told her that he has gone off duty but would still give her a ride back home.
Baireddy allegedly drove past her house, and when the victim asked to go back, he asked her to wait inside the car while he picked up food.
After returning from a restaurant in Fremont, the driver drove the car to his home on Camden Street in Fremont and lured the victim to go inside by offering her marijuana.
After entering the home, Baireddy allegedly raped her. Later he drove the victim to her home.
A few days after the incident, the victim approached police and narrated the incident. A formal complaint was registered and Baireddy was eventually contacted and later arrested.
His arraignment is scheduled for later this week.
Baireddy is charged with rape while the victim was unconscious, forced oral copulation while the victim was unconscious and forced digital penetration where the victim was prevented from resisting because of intoxicating substance.
The police have not yet confirmed whether the victim was in a state of intoxication at the time of her trip.
