Bombs were mailed to a number of Democratic figures and CNN.
Indian American members of Congress Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., and Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., have condemned attempted bomb attacks on prominent Democratic Party leaders and the New York City office of CNN.
Bombs were mailed to former President Obama’s Washington home, the New York home of 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, former CIA Director John Brennan, former Attorney General Eric Holder, prominent liberal donor George Soros and Maxine Waters, colleague of Jayapal and Krishnamoorthi in the US House of Representatives.
All these political figures were targets of verbal attacks by President Trump.
FBI is investigating the suspicious packages.
“I condemn these bomb attacks in the strongest possible terms,†Jayapal tweeted. “Outspoken progressive voices will never be silenced by terrorists.â€
She retweeted a joint statement from House Minority leaders Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Trump’s remarks earlier in the day, saying “These are the facts.â€
The Democratic leaders’ statement read: “Time and time again, the President has condoned physical violence and divided Americans with his words and his actions: expressing support for the Congressman who body-slammed a reporter, the neo-Nazis who killed a young woman in Charlottesville, his supporters at rallies who get violent with protestors, dictators around the world who murder their own citizens, and referring to the free press as the enemy of the people.â€
Krishnamoorthi, in a statement, said: “These despicable acts of violence towards prominent public figures and the media are deeply disturbing and cannot be condemned strongly enough. Our country is divided on a range of issues, but our opposition to political violence is a fundamental tenet of our democracy. This is a time for our country to come together and have productive debates over our disagreements while joining together to unequivocally reject political violence and terrorism.â€
