
The stand-up comic wins in entertainment category for the second consecutive year.
Hasan Minhaj is on a roll. After wooing a global audience with his wise crack wit, the Indian American comic is laughing all the way to one accolade after the other. Minhaj was announced the winner of 2019 Peabody Award in the entertainment category for his show Patriot Act on Netflix on April 18. This is the second year when Minhaj has won this award. In 2018, he received the same award for another Netflix special, titled Homecoming King.
The award comes a day after Minhaj was named as one of the TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people.
Peabody Awards is a prestigious annual award instituted by the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at University of Georgia. The awards honor the most powerful, enlightening and invigorating stories in mediums such as TV, radio and digital media.
Minhaj took to Instagram to announce his win. He wrote: “So proud of the incomparable @patriotact staff for winning a Peabody Award today! Can’t wait to show off our golden Colonel Sanders.â€

The awards announced today, selected nine entertainment winners and one children’s winner for the programs that were aired in 2018. Peabody Awards also announced Minhaj’s feat on Twitter and wrote: “Two-year winning streak for @HasanMinhaj! First Indian American and Muslim late-night host wins a #Peabody for @PatriotAct. #PatriotAct @Netflix is honored for engaging millennials in contemporary politics and public life.â€

The jurors at the Peabody Awards also applauded Minhaj for his bold and fearless taking on issues such as those of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered under mysterious circumstances. The jurors also commended his taking on of heads of government, including President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Peabody award show will be held at a red-carpet ceremony to take place on May 18 in New York.
