Emily Wollin, a former teaching assistant at University of North Dakota, got married to Pawan Kumar, whom she met on Facebook.
Paeans have been written about love and how it has no boundaries.
American Emily Wollin, who wed her boyfriend Pawan Kumar from India, proves that yet again.
Wollin, a former teaching assistant at University of North Dakota, traveled all the way to India to marry Kumar, a weaver who works in a handloom factory in the North Indian city of Amritsar.
The two tied the knot on August 25 in a traditional Indian ceremony. Wollin behaved every inch an excited bride and posted pictures of herself dressed in red lehenga, the traditional garment worn by Indian brides, as well as pictures of her applying henna on the hands.
The couple got to know each other through Facebook about seven months ago. They later began chatting on Facebook messenger and realized that they can be together. The two later exchanged WhatsApp numbers and began talking more frequently. Before taking the big plunge, Wollin traveled to India to get to know Kumar better. Then she decided to go ahead and get married to him. Kumar’s family accepted their white bride and Wollin, too, took a liking toward the Punjabi culture.
Wollin, after visiting India and being with her new husband, has decided to settle down in Amritsar. The two, despite the difference of cultures and class between them, are excited about their union and looking ahead to start their life as a multicultural family.
The news of the unique wedding spread across Amritsar in India and the video of the couple tying the knot is now going viral.
Wollin grew up in North Dakota, where she went to Fargo High School. According to her Facebook profile, she studied music and communications at Minnesota State University Moorhead and studied French and German at University of North Dakota.
