From hosting Costume Designers Guild Award to Oscars, Indian American Mindy Kaling is on a roll.
The jokes about Oscars being so white begin surfacing every year just before the big day of Hollywood heavyweights. And for many reasons, while this may hold true even today past few years have seen a slow but sure brown presence at the Oscars.
For all the desis out there, the biggest Oscar announcement this year has to be Indian origin actor and comedian Mindy Kaling being one of the presenters at Oscars 2020 on Feb 10.
Kaling herself took to Instagram to announce the big news. She wrote: “Guess what? Ya girl is joining the stage at the 92nd Oscars. Very excited to present and join an evening recognizing so many talented friends and colleagues.â€

While Mindy’s announcement was met with enough enthusiasm on line, the comedian went ahead and stamped her strong presence in American mainstream entertainment by hosting the 22nd annual Costume Designers Guild Awards on Jan 28 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
Mindy also got much love for her dress at the ceremony which was custom-designed for her by CDG president Salvador Pérez Jr.
Mindy who has emerged as one the frontrunners when it comes to Indian Americans in Hollywood, continues to inspire a generation of desis.
New York University student Akanksha Kumar says, “With her curves, her dusky skin, her confidence to laugh at herself and her not always succumbing to high fashion, she has much more appeal for my generation than say a Priyanka Chopra. We are rooting for her at the Oscars and would be cheering the loudest when she presents.â€
While the Oscars would continue the tradition set last year of not having a host, a diverse list of presenters have been chosen to take the ceremony forward.
At the Oscars 2020, Kaling will join Mahershala Ali, Zazie Beetz, Timothée Chalamet, Olivia Colman, Will Ferrell, Gal Gadot, Regina King, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Rami Malek, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Anthony Ramos, Mark Ruffalo, Kelly Marie Tran, and Kristen Wiig as a presenter at the 92nd Academy Awards.
