Indian American oversaw Biden-Harris campaign and inauguration festivities.

Indian American Maju Varghese, who oversaw the Biden-Harris presidential campaign and the  inauguration has been appointed President Joe Biden’s deputy assistant and Director of the White House Military Office.

After managing the logistics of Biden-Kamala Harris campaign as its chief operating officer, Varghese, a lawyer by training, became the executive director of their inauguration — the swearing-in ceremonies and the festivities around it.

In his new job at the White House, he will oversee military support, which includes providing medical support, emergency medical services, and presidential transportation and organizing official ceremonies and functions.

“Maju Varghese is now deputy assistant to the president and director of the White House Military Office,” he tweeted Tuesday announcing his appointment with a photo of the White House Arrival Lounge.

“The primaries, the general, the inaugural. Grateful for the journey, for great teammates and the history we made together,” Varghese wrote.

“Honored to serve the country and the President. Proud to walk through those gates again and to take my family, their story and their hopes with me,” he added.

This will be his second stint at the White House.

As then President Barack Obama’s special assistant and the deputy director of advance, a position in which he worked on organizing Obama’s travels, including his 2015 historic trip to India as chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations.

Varghese later became an assistant to the president for administration and management overseeing the White House complex in the Obama administration.

He has also worked as the chief operating officer at The Hub Project and as a senior advisor at the law firm Dentons.

US born son of immigrant parents from Thiruvalla, Kerala, Varghese has a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Varghese is one of more than 30 Indian-Americans appointed to senior positions in the Biden-Harris administration.
