DC winner gets a chance to join TiE global competition in May with $100,000 prize money
Washington area college students working to create their own startups can make a pitch for a program bringing together university entrepreneurs with successful business leaders as they vie for cash prizes totaling $12,500.
TiE DC regional chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), founded by a group of Indian American entrepreneurs, has just announced the second TiE DC University PitchFest for college/university students across Washington DC, Maryland & Virginia.
Teams from Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia can also compete in this free competition where three top teams will win cash prizes of $5,000 (1st Prize), $3,000 (2nd Prize), and $2,000 (3rd Prize), according to a TiE DC press release.

A special prize ($2,500) is being sponsored for focus on doing business with Governmental agencies in the USA (Local/State/Federal).
Open to current students from colleges/universities recent graduates from 2020 and 2021, the PitchFest will be held in person on March 26 from 3 to 5 pm EST.

The TiE DC winner will participate in the TiE Global competition with $100,000 prize money, held in Silicon Valley in May to compete with other TiE University teams from around the globe. The event is held during TiECON Silicon Valley in Santa Clara, California.
In the inaugural competition last year,104 students (44 teams) from 17 universities participated. Besides three top teams winning cash prizes six other teams received grants to develop their business ideas.
The pitch competition offers mentoring and coaching from the network of TiE DC and other successful entrepreneurs. It also offers in-kind prizes for building one’s start up as also access to capital from investors and network of TiEDC as well as TiE Global, the release said.
TiEDC University Program assists in creation of the next generation of entrepreneurs by educating, mentoring and inspiring them to plan and take intelligent risks in starting a business.
TiE DC University has developed into an inspiring program that brings together university entrepreneurs with successful business leaders across the Washington, DC area to perfect their pitch, develop their product or service and provide a holistic approach to their startup.

The teams go through a qualifying round in February. The final teams then go on to compete for cash prizes at TiE DC Finals, a pitch competition held in March.
Founded in 2000, TiE DC is the regional chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) founded in 1992 by a group of Silicon Valley-based Indian American technology entrepreneurs. TiE has 60 plus chapters across 17 countries.
