Ghee Happy, launched on YouTube, follows four Hindu deities, Kali, Saraswati, Ganesh, and Krishna, on various adventures
LOS ANGELES: Pixar alum and Oscar nominee Sanjay Patel has launched ‘Ghee Happy’, an animated preschool series that’s available in its entirety (completely free) on YouTube. The series, launched on November 6 in honor of Diwali, follows four Hindu deities, Kali, Saraswati, Ganesh, and Krishna, on various adventures. These four Goddesses and Gods learn about Diwali (the festival of lights), Rakhi, and explore high-concept ideas like existence through encounters with the god Vishnu.
Patel sought to create a world where the show could be “for everyone”. Additionally, he says, “if you have any kind of background or appreciation for these traditions, then it should really speak to you. We tried really hard to keep the specificity of the Indian traditions.”
The animations were created with a more basic style with the hopes that kids would be able to see them and be able to project themselves into the show and find it more relatable.
Reporter Chhaya Nene spoke with Patel in depth to learn more about the show’s origins, things we can expect to see, animation styles and more.
