BENGALURU: In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh, a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by a village youth one year back, was set ablaze by the accused after his reconciliation efforts with her failed.
According to police, the girl had filed a rape case against the accused, Vijay, a year ago. Since then, she was being coaxed by the alleged rapist to withdraw the case, which she didn’t heed to.
Police added that Vijay, along with an accomplice, finally doused the victim with kerosene and set her ablaze.
Even though she was brought to the Aligarh Medical College Hospital, the doctors couldn’t save her life as she succumbed to third degree burns, said Circle Officer, Gunnaur, Pramod Kumar.
He also added that an FIR has been registered against Vijay and the investigation is currently underway.
The girl’s family had filed a case against Vijay a year back and the accused had been trying in many ways to persuade the girl and her family to withdraw the case.
Atul Saxena, the Superintendent of Police said a team of seven other officers is currently investigating the case. Meanwhile, a beat police officer Anil Kumar has been placed under suspension in connection with the case.
