An FIR has been registered against Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra in a Bengaluru police station after he allegedly assaulted a woman in a hotel.
According to The Indian Express, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central division) Sandeep Patil said that the Ashoka Nagar police have taken up the case and served notice to Mishra, instructing him to appear before the investigating officer within a week’s time.
The Ashok Nagar police officials said, “The incident took place on September 25 and the woman filed a case on September 27. We have collected the statements of eye-witnesses and also collected the CCTV footage of the hotel to analyse the incident. We have also other supporting evidence about the incident.
“Few of hotel staff witnessed the incident and we have taken their statement regarding the incident. We have enough evidence to take stringent action against Mishra if he fails to appear before the investigating officer,” Patil added.
The police registered a case under section 326 and 354 of Indian Penal Code.
The Express identified the victim as a Bengaluru resident, who has produced few Bollywood films.
Mishra is part of the Indian cricket team for the test series against South Africa, which begins on November 5.
