Over the years, Indian festivals have undergone noticeable change in the way they are celebrated across the country by people living in different strata of society.
A new survey conducted by Hotels.com have found that the celebration of the festival of lights, Diwali, has undergone massive changes over the years as more Indians tend to travel to international destinations rather than celebrating Diwali with their family and friends.
According to Hotels.com, one of the most visited hotel and travel related vacation booking website, “It is good to see the shift that Indians are expanding their horizons and now looking to celebrate this once perceived family-oriented festival overseas,”
According to the data released by Hotels.com, Indians who celebrate Diwali abroad choose Europe as their favourite location, and others in the domestic front choose Goa as the location to celebrate Diwali.
Diwali is celebrated across India as the day that signifies the triumph of good over evil and it also marks the beginning of holiday for the Indian community.
Interestingly, during the festival seasons foreigners visit India to experience the festival of lights with all its traditions but, on the other hand, people from India visit other places to rather enjoy their holidays than to celebrate Diwali.
“India receives a large number of international visitors who wish to savour the Indian festivities and culture during this festive season,” the study stated.
