In a miraculous incident, a 50-year-old man came back to life after his heart stopped beating for around 50 minutes.
The case of Rajendra Patel, a businessman from Sanand, in Gujarat, is really a mystery in medical science.
When Patel was admitted to the Navajivan hospital in Sanand, his heart had stopped beating. Understanding the seriousness of the situation, the doctors decided to take him to Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedure where around 100 chest compressions were given to revive the dysfunctional heart, after which an emergency angioplasty was done.
Chest compressions and electric shocks continued for 50 minutes and then Patel’s heart started beating again.
Interestingly, the doctors who treated Patel co-ordinated all procedures through WhatsApp and over phone.Dr Ravi Singhvi, a cardiologist at a corporate hospital in Ghuma, had also exchanged messages through WhatsApp regarding the procedures.
The Times of India quoted Dr Ravi Singhvi saying, “I was in constant touch with Dr. Saxena over the phone and WhatsApp, assisting him in the prolonged CPR. The patient even went into a coma and chances of his brain revival were lowered because blood was not reaching his brain.
“However, the patient’s heart later revived and blood flow to his brain was restored, which is why he is alive today,” he added.
“His cognitive functions aren’t responding that well yet, but I am hopeful that he will be fine soon with getcontinuous physiotherapy and proper nutrition.I am thankful to all the doctors,” Jaswant Patel, Rajendra Patel’s brother told the Times. Patel was discharged from the hospital last week.
