Indian-American leader Nikki Haley asks Trump supporters to “keep faith truth will prevail.’
As Democratic challenger Joe Biden took the lead over President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania putting him on the verge of victory, the incumbent accused his opponents of trying to “steal the election from us.”
Steadily erasing Trump’s early lead in Pennsylvania, Biden eyed the 270 finish line with its 20 electoral votes. He also inched up in Georgia, though his lead diminished in Arizona as absentee ballots continued to be counted overnight.
But at the White House, speaking just hours after Biden called for patience and “calm,” Trump accused his opponents of trying to “steal the election from us.”
Claiming he had vanquished Biden, if “legal” ballots were counted, Trump asserted that Democratic officials in states that appear to be lining up for Biden are accomplices in a “corrupt system.”
The Trump campaign also released a statement Friday morning making clear they will contest the election, calling any projections of Joe Biden as the winner “false” and the race “far from final.”
“This election is not over. The false projection of Joe Biden as the winner is based on results in four states that are far from final,” Trump campaign general counsel Matt Morgan stated.
Responding to reports that Trump has no plans to concede the race, the Biden campaign asserted that the US government “is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House.”
“As we said on July 19th, the American people will decide this election,” campaign spokesperson Andrew Bates stated. “And the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House.”
Amid reports of Biden’s likely win, new restricted “national defense airspace” has been put in place over his home in Wilmington, Delaware, CNN reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration has also temporarily restricted airspace over the nearby Chase Center, where the stage is set for a possible Biden victory speech – should he ultimately win the presidential election, it said.
Meanwhile, popular Indian-American Republican leader Nikki Haley asked Trump supporters “to keep the faith that the truth will prevail.”
“We all owe @realDonaldTrump for his leadership of conservative victories for Senate, House, & state legislatures,” the former US ambassador to the UN under Trump tweeted.
“He (President Trump) and the American people deserve transparency & fairness as the votes are counted. The law must be followed. We have to keep the faith that the truth will prevail,” she added.
Haley’s tweet followed an apparent grouse of the President’s son Donald Trump Jr that “2024 GOP hopefuls” are “sitting on the sidelines” and not speaking out against the “fraud” in counting of votes as alleged by his father.“
“This is an important point! Everyone should be watching who is actually fighting this flagrant nonsense and who is sitting on the sidelines,” Trump Jr wrote in response to a tweet.
“Republicans have been weak for decades which has allowed for the left to do these things. Let’s end that trend once and for all,”
he wrote in response to a tweet asking, “Where are the so-called future of the GOP? Nikki Haley is doing what?”
In a series of tweets later, Trump Jr wrote, “The total lack of action from virtually all of the ‘2024 GOP hopefuls’ is pretty amazing.”
“They have a perfect platform to show that they’re willing & able to fight but they will cower to the media mob instead,” he tweeted. “Don’t worry @realDonaldTrump will fight & they can watch as usual!”
The first ever Indian-American Cabinet ranking official in any administration, Haley, 48, is seen as a potential Republican candidate for president in 2024.
