NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old software engineer was fatally shot at a busy intersection in Noida, Uttar Pradesh by unidentified assailants who immediately fled the scene, reported The Hindustan Times.
The victim was identified as Ankit Chauhan. He belonged to Meerut district and was married on March 10, police said. He was working as a software engineer with Tata Consultancy Services.
Police received a call at 4 p.m. on Monday about the shooting at the Sector 76 crossing. When policemen reached to the spot, witnesses said Chauhan was taken to a nearby hospital by a passer-by.
Chauhan was subsequently referred to Kailash Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Chauhan’s friend Gagan, who was with him in a Toyota Fortuner during the attack, told police that Chauhan was driving the SUV and he was sitting in the passenger’s seat. Seemingly out of nowhere, a white Honda Accord overtook the SUV and forced it to stop, Gagan recounted. A young gunman emerged from the Accord and fired three shots at Chauhan.
“After firing two shots [through the] rear mirror, the attacker fired a last bullet from the side mirror aiming at Ankit’s head,” stated Raj Kumar Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police.
“The family members of the victim have been informed. The body has been sent for postmortem. We got inputs that Ankit’s car was followed by the attacker’s car from sector 134. We are examining all CCTVs installed on the stretch. The car used in the crime has been identified. Two police teams including surveillance cell have been instructed to investigate the matter thoroughly,” said Mishra.
