BENGALURU: Superstar Rajnikanth’s wife Latha has been booked by Ulsoorgate police on charges ranging from cheating and forgery after the an additional chief metropolitan magistrate in Chennai ordered to a case be filed against her for allegedly ‘doctoring’ documents related to the defamation case that she filed against some distributors of the Rajinikanth movie ‘Kochadaiiyaan’.
According to the police, they were asked to file a case after the magistrate found that Latha manipulated some documents submitted to the court for getting a restraining order against some distributors and media who were served notice for publically defaming her.
She had approached the court seeking a gag order on media after some distributors made allegations against her in March. According to the court, Latha forged the letterhead of an organization called the ‘Publishers and Broadcast Welfare Association of India’.
The Ad Bureau, however, went to court and denied the existence of a body called Publishers and Broadcast Welfare Association of India.
According to Sandeep Patil, DCP Central, city police will scrutinize the letterhead of the Publishers and Broadcast Welfare Association of India to verify its genuineness. In addition to this, the investigation team will also check with the Union Information and Broadcasting ministry.
Latha Rajnikanth approached the court with the alleged doctored documents seeking a gag order on 76 publications that allegedly published defamatory stories about her regarding the financial transactions she did with Ad Bureau – one of the commissioned producers. Ad Bureau had alleged that she committed fraud by selling the rights of ‘Kochadiiyaan’.
Latha had earlier slapped a legal notice against media asking them to abstain from publishing stories related to the financial disputes that she has with a few distributors of Kochadiiyaan.
