BENGALURU: Mithun Chakraborty, the Trinamool Congress MP and yesteryear Bollywood actor on Tuesday surrendered Rs. 1.2 crore that he received while being the brand ambassador of Saradha group, which is now defunct after a chit-scam.
According to a report that appeared in The Indian Express, a legal team representing Mithun Chakraborty reached the Enforcement Directorate office at Salt Lake and handed over a Demand Draft amounting to Rs. 1.2 crore to the investigating officer of the Saradha-chit scam case.
According to sources, Chakraborty earlier committed to the investigating officer that he would surrender the amount received from Saradha group while serving as its brand ambassador.
The official sources inside Enforcement Directorate said that the agency is satisfied after Chakraborty fulfilled his commitment and for giving a statement regarding his role in the operations of Saradha Group, which is now non-operational after a large-scale chit fund scam in West Bengal and other states.
Chakraborty, during the last questioning of the enforcement directorate, had submitted a bunch of DVD’s, CD’s and scripts that he received from the Saradha group while he was their brand ambassador. The actor-turned-politician had then claimed that his relation with the firm was nothing more than professional and testified that he had no links with the scam and its perpetrators by providing personal and official records in this regard to the enforcement agency.
