Bangalore once again proved that it is no better than Delhi when it comes to the safety of women.
In a shocking incident in the IT hub of India, a 22-year-old BPO employee was kidnapped and later raped by two men who gave her a ride in a mini-bus, on Saturday night.
According to the police, the victim was waiting in the Madiwala bus stop, south of Bangalore, to go back home, when the two accused, who are currently under police custody, offered her a ride in their mini bus. Ironically, the Madiwala bus stops from where the girl boarded the bus is just 50 meters away from the police station.
After the incident came to light, police scrutinized the CCTV footages of all major traffic islands, which helped in nabbing the two accused.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohini Katoch Sepat said, “We have rounded up two persons and brought them to the Madiwala Police Station where the case has been registered. We are verifying whether they were the ones who allegedly gang-raped the call centre woman employee.”
Police said, after the girl boarded the minivan, the two accused threatened her with a knife and drove the vehicle to an isolated location in Domlur, east Bangalore, where they raped her. The rapists dropped the girl back to Madiwala later during the night.
The girl informed her friend over the phone about the incident and was soon rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical care. She was later discharged on Monday.
Private vehicles such as minivans ply in and around the Bangalore city during late nights and commuters who travel back home after the night shifts often take them for a quick ride.
