A police constable was killed and three others injured when unidentified persons started firing inside a courtroom at Delhi’s Karkardooma court complex, on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the incident took place around 11:15 am when an under-trial was brought to court number 73.
The unidentified persons, who were suspected to have been waiting to attack the under trial, fired at least 10 rounds and made a quick exit from the place.
Head Constable Ram Kumar, who was accompanying the under trial, Chenu Phelwan alias Irfan, suffered three bullet injuries in the attack and died on the spot.
“The gang entered the court and opened fire when they saw Irfan. He was injured and has been hospitalized,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Sanjay Beniwal was quoted as saying NDTV.
“Unfortunately, the policeman accompanying Irfan got killed,” he said. “Irfan belongs to another (criminal) gang.”
