The Indian government is going all out to get liquor baron Vijay Mallya deported to India. But the business tycoon who left India in March this year is having a good time in the UK.
A video posted on the Facebook page of Mallya’s son Siddharth shows him watching the Indian Premier League final between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Sunday, along with Siddharth and a few others.
“Here we are, watching together from London. It doesn’t get better than Sergio Perez getting a podium. Hopefully, we can add to what has been an epic day of sports so far,” Siddharth said in the video.
Sergio Perez of Mallya co-owned Force India had finished third in the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.
Mallya is seen having fun with the group of people as he said “go RCB” when the camera is turned on him.
Mallya was the director of the RCB franchise owned by the UB group. He had to give up the directorship when he stepped down as the chairman of the UB group.
The founder of the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines owes about Rupees 9400 crore to 17 Indian banks. Mallya reportedly left Indian on March 2 and failed to show up before the probe agency on April 9, despite receiving a summons sent by Enforcement Directorate (ED) three times.
He had offered to pay Rupees 6800 crores to settle the dues of 9400 crores. The government of India in April revoked the passport of Vijay Mallya after the ED requested the passport office in Delhi to revoke his passport.
The Government of India has requested the British government to deport Mallya citing the he didn’t have a valid passport. But the British government informed its Indian counterpart that it is not possible to deport him according to British law and requested to start the procedures for extradition.
