NEW YORK: In a shocking incident of murder-suicide which has bewildered neighbors and friends of the family, an Indian American man in Atlanta, Georgia, stabbed his two sons, aged 5 and 12, respectively, to death, clobbered his wife to death, and then killed himself, by hanging.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office released the victims’ names as: Shivinder Grover, 53, his wife, Damanjit Kaur-Grover, 47, and their two sons, Gurtej, 5, and Sartaj, 12, reported CBS News.
“It’s still an active crime scene,” said Johns Creek police Chief Ed Densmore during a news conference. “It’s still fluid. The officers are still at the crime scene right now. We haven’t wrapped up that portion of it, so I’m not prepared to answer anything as far as motive or anything along those lines.”
The officers made the discovery at the Aylesbury Farms apartments in the 6100 block of Abbotts Bridge Road in the city of Johns Creek, which is located in the suburbs of Atlanta, just before noon after getting a request to check on a woman who hadn’t shown up for work. This becomes Johns Creek’s first murder case since it officially became a city in December 2006.
Wilson Creek Elementary and River Trail Middle School, the schools the boys attended, both had grief counselors on hand, said CBS.
Damanjit Kaur-Grover worked for Emory Healthcare. Emory released the following statement: “Emory Healthcare is saddened to learn of the loss of our employee, Damanjit “Daisy” Grover…Daisy was a beloved member of the Emory Healthcare staff and was known for her love and compassion for her children, family and patients. Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to Daisy’s family members and friends during this time of loss.”
Police were called to the spacious apartment by Damanjit’s colleague after the woman failed to show up to work, reported MailOnline. Friends and neighbors are shocked, describing the Sikh family as ‘happy’ and ‘loving’.
Neighbors are baffled by the family’s deaths, insisting the Grovers were a ‘happy couple’ and that nothing had suggested there was trouble in the apartment in the newly established Atlanta suburb.
“’The father comes out nearly every morning and puts the kids on the school bus,’ a neighbor who lives in an adjoining complex told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, adding that she regularly saw the two boys playing, said Mail Online.
Another neighbor, Joseph Olander, called the Grovers ‘a very loving couple’ and told the Journal-Constitution he heard nothing unusual on the day of the crime.
Shivinder Grover, who had studied at the University of Michigan, had recently moved to Atlanta from Michigan, and was working as an executive at a technology firm.
