BENGALURU: It all started on the day Shannon and Seema first met at a fitness class, and they tied the knot in July, 2013, making it officially the first Indian American lesbian marriage in America. Seema (only first name given) is an Indian American.
Earlier this year, Shannon gave birth to a baby boy, on January 21st.
Now, almost two years after the much hyped and publicized wedding in America, and the birth of a child, a leading portal in India has deemed fit to highlight the wedding nuptials, along with the photos. And it’s slowly spawning, with other portals taking it up.
For the record, Shannon said during the wedding ceremony, in 2013, at SmogShoppe in Los Angeles, California, that it was love at first sight when she first met Seema at a boot camp fitness class that she taught. According to her, that very moment she told her fellow instructor “’I’m going to marry her”. Shannon’s clairvoyance has come true after six years.
The special moments of America’s first Indian American lesbian marriage was photographed by Steph Grant, who is an LGBT wedding specialist in the US. Steph wrote on her website, “I have been anticipating this wedding for years now. Shannon and Seema are special to me and I am honored that they chose me to be their wedding photographer.”
She added, “There was so much love that evening. Friends and family came pouring in with smiles, hugs and tears these two are clearly loved and in love.”
The marriage was conducted as per Hindu tradition and the bride, Seema, was carried to her wedding on a doli by her family. The event also witnessed many ancient Indian traditions, including ring exchange and tying the knot.
Shannon and Seema also found time for the “first kiss” at their wedding, though Indian tradition doesn’t have a slot for it.
Here is a video of their marriage from YouTube, as love can be celebrated anytime, it never gets old:
