Amazon has launched its own restaurant delivery service in the US. The company has announced that it is providing food deliveries to its customers from local restaurants in Seattle via its Prime Now service.
Prime members can download the Prime Now app and enter their zip code to see if Prime Now is available in their area. In zip codes where restaurant delivery is available, customers will see Restaurants on the home page, Amazon said in their launch announcement.
The service in Seattle will deliver food from local restaurants including Cactus, Wild Ginger, Skillet, Marination Station, Re:public, Café Yumm!, Ten Mercer, Mamnoon and others.
Amazon said that restaurant delivery offers customers transparent pricing – there are no menu markups or hidden service fees, and delivery on all orders is free for a limited time. Customers can pay using the information already stored in their Amazon account.
The delivery will be made within one hour of the order, it added.
“We are excited to team up with Amazon’s Prime Now service to offer customers a convenient and fast delivery option for lunch and dinner,” said Scott Campbell, director of operations, Wild Ginger.
After the successful launch in Seattle, the restaurant delivery service will be expanded to other areas also, Amazon added.
