Hyderabad police today arrested a 37-year old Muslim woman who was deported from UAE after suspected involvement in recruiting people to the Islamic State terror organizations.
According to PTI, Afsha Jabeen alias ‘Nicky Joseph’ who originally hails from Hyderabad has been adding people to the terrorist organization through social media, posturing as a British national. It is learnt that the Abu Dhabi police deported her along with her husband and children.
Jabeen was under the scanner of the Abu Dhabi police and was picked up for preliminary questioning after which she was immediately deported to Hyderabad, where the police waited to take her into custody after they got information about her arrival via the UAE police. The police later arrested her and registered a case against her.
Hyderabad police said in a press release, “Today, on credible information, Afsha Jabeen is taken into custody at RGI Airport when she arrived from Dubai. As she is a co-accused in Salman’s case, she is arrested and produced in the court. Further inquiry is going on.â€
Another person from Hyderabad, Salam Mohiuddin, was earlier arrested by the police from the airport premises while he was preparing to board a Dubai-born flight to Syria via Turkey.
During his interrogation, Salam had provided leads to the investigating officer about several Facebook accounts along with one of Nicky Joseph, a supposedly British national living in Dubai. According to him, it was due to the influence of Nicky that he decided to go to Syria.
The India security agency soon contacted their British counterpart and inquired about the details of Nicky but after a thorough investigation they came to the understanding that Nicky Joseph is none other than Jabeen, who was operating the Facebook account from UAE.
After coming to know that Jabeen is somewhere in UAE, the investigators in India contacted authorities in UAE and alerted them.
According to investigators, Salam and Jabeen allegedly brainwashed and encouraged several youths via social media to join the activities of IS and Jihad.
Earlier, Kerala police had questioned a youth who was deported by the UAE police in similar fashion after they found pro-ISIS posts on his social media wall. Even though he was released after questioning, the police are said to be watching his movements.
