Snoop Dogg is parlaying his love of cannabis into a new lifestyle website intended to be an online “encyclopedia” for anything anyone would want to know about marijuana.
Merryjane.com went online Monday, featuring a homepage inviting people to apply for early access to a beta version of the platform, with a full launch slated for October.
Merry Jane, which will be ad-supported, will look to connect legal shops and customers, according to a promotional video shown at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco.
The rapper and business mogul described the website as an online repository “for information, insights, news, and business guidance about the marijuana world.” The project boasts celebrity allies that actor Seth Rogen and singer Miley Cyrus, reported Agence France-Presse.
Snoop Dogg also predicted that marijuana would be legal in California and 20 other US states in two years.
Meanwhile, the results of a new study about the impact of Colorado’s marijuana legalization is raising questions among the right wing.
According to a report released this month by the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, Colorado saw a 29 percent increase in emergency room visits, and a 38 percent increase in hospitalizations during retail cannabis’ first year, reported CBS Denver.
The study states that over 11 percent of Colorado’s 12 to 17 year-olds use pot — 56 percent higher than the national average. It also cites a 40 percent increase in drug-related suspensions and expulsions — the vast majority allegedly from cannabis use.
Diane Carlson, co-founder of Smart Colorado, believes child and teen use of marijuana has become “epidemic.”
“Kids have no idea how dangerous or harmful Colorado’s pot is,” she claimed.
