When it comes to the selfie addition of a few people, it makes us think whether the authorities should come out with measures to restrain the over enthusiasm of these people, who at times are more dangerous than cocaine addicts.
That is exactly what the Mumbai police is going to do as they are thinking of imposing a selfie restriction in many places in the city, which are considered high-risk zones.
India has the most number of selfie addicts who make foolish decisions to take selfies in the most precarious locations, causing harm or even death not only to them but even to people on the roads.
Taking safety of the people into consideration, the Mumbai police have now decided to mark few areas of the city as “No Selfie Zone” and are planning strict police patrolling in these areas to curb any untoward incidents.
The police said that they have already identified the places where they intend to slap a selfie ban in these areas.
Police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni was quoted by CNN saying “This is a new problem for us. “We have identified spots in Mumbai. We want to restrain people from going there so that mishaps don’t happen.”
Going by the number of people killed in accidents while taking selfies, India is listed at the top.
According to the report, 45% of the total deaths caused while taking selfies happened in India.
Recently, a Chennai teen was hit by a train after he posed in front of it for a selfie.
The coastal city of Mumbai is prone to people getting drowned while attempting to take selfies. The city being stuffed with scenic beauty selfie addicts can’t resist themselves from grabbing a selfie, at times resulting in a fatality.
On Tuesday, two teenagers armed with smartphones went missing in a dam in Bhiwandi in the outskirts of Mumbai after they reportedly tried to click a selfie.
According to the police, they are already warning people in a few high-risk zones to not to take selfies.
“We have deployed our policeman in those areas and we are asking the [city council] to put up warning signs,” he adds.
“We are also requesting them to deploy lifeguards in the area to save people.”
The latest move of the Mumbai police takes cognizant of selfie ban imposed by major tourist destinations across the world, where selfie obsession could cause conflicts and accidents.
Louvre in Paris and Disneyland have recently imposed a ban on selfies.
