Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babulal Gaur stroked a controversy on Thursday after he was caught on camera touching a woman inappropriately.
The video recorded during an event in Barkhedi Nathu showed the minister slapping the rear of a woman. The video went viral on social media and triggered a controversy after it was aired on news channels.
Gaur, a former chief minister, however, denied the allegations. “There is no truth in the clipping. I only directed women workers to board the bus quickly as it was meant for them. There is no truth in the clip as shown. Whatever I am saying is true,” he told Press Trust of India.
He was flagging off a bus in Barkheda Nathu.
The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party came down heavily on Gaur who has made many controversies in the past.
“BJP talks about respecting women… what will be the security of the women in Madhya Pradesh?” Congress leader Mandvi Chouhan was quoted as saying by NDTV.
AAP spokesperson Neha Bagga said, “Can other women of the state expect security. Babulal Gaur should resign from his post. CM should look into the matter.”
In 2014, he had landed in a controversy by saying that number of rapes is very low in South India as women dress decently.
Last year the minister made a controversial statement about liquor. He said that drinking liquor is a fundamental right and a status symbol.
In another occasion, Gaur termed rape as a social crime which is sometimes wrong and sometimes right.
He was in trouble when he recalled how he taught a Russian leader’s wife to tie a dhoti. “I told her I can’t teach you how to wear it, but I can certainly teach you how to remove it, but that too later, not now,” Gaur had said.
