Should chase Nigerians out of India: Naik.
By Sreekanth A. Nair
Former Goa Chief Minister Ravi Naik landed in a controversy after demanding a ban on Nigerians entering India. Referring Nigerians as “negroes,” the politician said that the state does not need Nigerian tourists.
According to the Senior Congress leader, Nigerians have been causing problems in Goa and other metros cities and the Central government should ban them, reported The Times of India.
“The government of India should ban them. They should be probed. It should be checked whether they are here to study or for picnic or to sell drugs,” Naik was quoted as saying by Indo-Asian News Service.
“Nigerians come here and do ‘dadagiri’, in Delhi, Bengaluru, and the entire country. We should chase the Nigerians out of here,” he added.
Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had said on May 30 that the people of Goa were not happy with the behavior and lifestyle of Nigerian nationals living in the country. State Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar also joined the discussion on the same day by saying Nigerians sell drugs and create problems in the state.
While responding to Naik’s statement, BJP’s spokesman in Goa, Kiran Kandolkar agreed with him partially. He said that Nigerians in the state display bad behavior, but it was wrong to put a ban on the entire community on account of their lifestyle.
“Goans do not want Nigerians because they riot, are over the top, have a rough attitude and bad behavior,” Kandolkar told IANS.
Kandolkar also demanded an apology from the Congress leader.
“Obviously, he should apologize. As a senior leader and a good politician, Ravi Naik should apologize to all black people who he has referred to as Negroes,” Kandolkar said.
