The last rites of Tarishi Jain, the Indian national who was killed in the terrorist attack at a restaurant in Dhaka on Friday, were performed in Gurgaon on Monday evening. Her brother Sanchit performed the last rites at the cremation ground at Iffco Chowk, reported The Times of India.
Though Tarishi’s family wanted to take her body to her native Firozabad, things didn’t work out in that way. Then they decided to cremate the body in Gurgaon.
“We didn’t want to keep the body for too long. It takes six-seven hours to reach Firozabad from Delhi airport. We cannot take her to the cremation ground at 7pm. So, we will cremate her in Gurgaon. Over a dozen family members are leaving for Delhi tonight by car,” her uncle Rajeev Jain told The Telegraph India.
The mortal remains of Tarishi were received by union power and coal minister Piyush Goyal at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The body was brought in a Jet Airways plane.
The body was kept at the DLF Phase I community Centre where many people including Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh, Haryana minister Ram Bilas Sharma, Congress leader Raj Babbar and MS Bitta paid tributes to Tarishi.
Piyush Goyal accompanied the body along with her parents to Gurgaon where the last rites were performed.
Tarishi, 19, was killed in a brutal terrorist attack at Holey Artisan Bakery cafe in Dhaka’s Gulshan area on Friday that killed 20 foreigners. A student at UC Berkeley, she was on a vacation in Dhaka where her father Sanjiv Jain runs a textile business. Islamic State terrorists stormed the café and picked up people who couldn’t recite verses from the Quran and killed them.
Another Indian was lucky enough to escape from the hands of the terrorists as they mistook him for a Bangladeshi as he spoke fluent Bengali.
