Shockingly, police displayed the children in front of the media during a news conference.
Hyderabad Police on Wednesday caught at least 65 boys for watching porn and ISIS beheadings in internet cafes. Some of the boys were as young as 11-years-old.
According to media reports, the police started the drive against internet cafes after parents complained that their children spending more time at cyber cafes claiming that they need internet access to do their homework and projects.
The police raided at least 92 internet cafes in 17 police station limits of South Zone and the café owners were also arrested.
Shockingly, police displayed the children in front of the media during a news conference. Revealing a minor’s identity is not legal. The minors were counseled in the custody of their parents.
Police urged parents to keep a tab on their children’s homework and school-activity.
The police is also concerned that many children were also caught watching violence videos including ISIS propaganda material like filmed beheadings.
“I did not know what was happening but he would be away for a long time,” NDTV quoted a parent named Salma Sultana.
“I first wanted to hit him. That was my first instinct. Then I thought, I need to talk to him. I am glad the Hyderabad police did this drive to wean children away from all this,” another parent told to NDTV.
“We are keeping up our vigil because we see this as a critical area for youngsters to get diverted into undesirable activity,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) V Satyanarayana told the media.
“We are still verifying the role of a few other cyber-café owners who were allowing the minors to watch porn,” he said.
The DCP also added that the drive against the internet cafes was conducted to curb cyber offences and to discourage minors from watching pornography, objectionable videos and other content.
Police filed as many as 37 cases against internet cafe owners. The charges include Section 292 IPC (sale of grossly indecent or obscene matter), Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and also Hyderabad City Police Act.
Watching porn was banned in India in 2015, but the law was overturned. While watching porn in private is legal, public viewing is not allowed.
