The Bollywood star is currently in Berlin, Germany, to promote Baywatch.
Priyanka Chopra, who won the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award under the new Internationally Acclaimed Icon Award category, will be conferred with same on June 1, 2017.
The actor, who has made India proud with her outstanding performances in the international arena, will be the first recipient of this award in the new category.
“She is representing India at a global level and that has made every Indian proud of her work. This compelled us to introduce this fresh category in the awards,” Dadasaheb Phalke Academy and Award Committee chairman Ganesh Jain said in a statement.
Chopra is currently in Berlin, Germany, to promote her upcoming Hollywood flick Baywatch, which is about to release in India on June 2.
The movie, which had its premier in the US on May 26, has received poor reviews internationally. Low box office collections further added to the film’s sinking fate. It collected only $4.5 million including, paid previews on Day 1.
The movie, which has been criticized for being immature in concept and lack of skills, has brought lukewarm reviews for Chopra.
PeeCee uplifted her identity in the international grounds with the TV series Quantico in which she played a spy, Alex Parish, which has earned the actress two consecutive People’s Choice Awards.
Quantico has been renewed for the 3rd season on theABC network this year. Also, she has rubbed shoulders with popular Hollywood celebrities like Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron in Baywatch.
The Board of Trustees for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award includes Johnny Lever, Pahlaj Nihalani, and Mithun Chakraborty. The ceremony will be held on June 1 in Mumbai.
Bollywood celebrities like Anil Kapoor, Kapil Sharma, Juhi Chawla and Nitesh Tiwari, are expected to attend the event, according to various reports in the Indian media.
