The film is all set to hit the screens on July 21
The much-awaited trailer of Alankrita Srivastava’s Lipstick Under My Burkha is out and it is a daring response to India’s Central Board of Film Certification that earlier refused to clear the film for being too female oriented.
The film, which stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra, Plabita Borthakur and Vikrant Massey, tells the story of four small town women and their sexual fantasies. The 2 minutes 14 seconds trailer is a bold response to all eyebrows raised against the film.
The trailer starts with real-life news reports about censor board’s rejection of the film, and it is packed with bold lines and lot of sexual acts. It also asks the question “Why does our freedom scare you so?”
Konkona Sen Sharma plays the role of an oppressed wife and mother and powerful performance is already recognized as she wins the best actress award at the New York Indian Film Festival.
Earlier, Ekta Kapoor, whose production house Balaji Motion Pictures is presenting the film, released a new poster that in all likelihood symbolizes the crew’s fight with the Censor Board.
A dash of red can spark off a rebellion. 💋

The lipstick-like middle finger in the poster seems like a reaction to the CBFC, which later cleared the movie with ‘A’ certificate when Certification Appellate Tribunal overruled the decision to reject the film.
The film is all set to hit the screens on July 21.
