Indian comedian Vir Das, arguably one of the best-known comedians from the sub-continent in the US, is coming back with his brand-new show titled – The Green Light Tour in spring.
Das’ new show takes him to some of the newest locations across the US such as Huntsville, Alabama, Providence, Rhode Island, Timonium, Maryland apart from other popular destinations such as Florida, California, Texas and New JerseyOne of the first comedians from India to land a show on Netflix, Das has created quite a fan following in the US too.
“I am from Wisconsin, and we have a Vir Das show in Madison this year,” says Nivi Shree, a student at University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign.
“I think I am going to take some of my American friends along for the show, as he is one of those rare artists from India who understands the US and US culture well enough. His jokes leave even my American friends in splits.”
Others who are looking forward to watch the show also feel that Das’ charm remains in the fact that he is able to connect so well with the Indian American first or second-generation audience too.
Nisha Patel from Sacramento, California says, “In our family we are all Hasan Minhaj fans and we do connect to his jokes understandably because like us he is from an Indian immigrant family and his Indian mom and dad jokes are like reflection of our family time.”
“But to see Vir, a guy born and brought up in India really getting the nerve of an average desi in America is something that gives me goosebumps. I recommend it one hundred percent.”
Das’ latest show ‘Landing,’ on Netflix that premiered in December last year was very well received not just in India but in the US too. Das has been posting teasers and funny messages on his social media about his upcoming Green Light Tour.
Recently, Vir Das received rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. His third Netflix special titled, ‘Vir Das for India’ got him an international Emmy Nomination in 2021.
