A bad cook played villain during a marriage ceremony in Tumkur, Karnataka, after the groom and his family called off the wedding ceremony citing that his relatives didn’t like the ‘rasam’ and ‘sambar’ served during the reception.
Fortunately, a relative of the rejected bride came forward and married her.
The strange incident, more dramatic than a movie scene, unfolded in Kollapuradamma Hall, Kunigal, in Tumkur, on Sunday.
According to reports, almost 300 invited attendees waited with bated breath as the groom from Bengaluru who was unhappy with the rasam served to his invitees decided to call off the marriage.
As the groom made his exit, a man from the invitees, who happened to be a distant relative of the bride, volunteered to marry her.
According to the people who attended the wedding, the groom’s family picked up a quarrel with the bride’s family regarding rasam and sambar served at the reception on Saturday. The groom who was in the mandapam, doing the final rituals before the marriage, got up and took sides with his parents and soon the family walked out of the marriage, leaving the bride’s family distraught.
One of the girl’s family members was quoted by The Times of India saying “We were let down in front of our guests. The groom could have informed us earlier if he wasn’t happy with this alliance. Luckily, god came to our rescue.”
