The hypocrisy of an additional district magistrate was exposed after a video of him urinating in the banks of Triveni Sangam, wearing a ‘Clean Ganga’ t-shirt went viral on YouTube.
The photographs and video of ADM OP Shrivastav peeing near the convergence of holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the mystical Saraswathi has irked the BJP government as it is currently undertaking a mission to clean Ganga.
According to reports, the video was taken on Sunday during the Triveni Mahotsav celebrations that commenced on Tuesday.
The shameful act of the ADM happened moments after the District Magistrate concluded his press briefing on the Triveni Mahotsav at the Allahabad Boat Club. ADM Shrivastav was one of the officials who attended the function wearing a specially designed t-shirt that had ‘Clean Ganga’ written on it.
Ironically, the highly contemptible act of ADM was recorded just minutes after the District Magistrate stressed the importance of cleaning up Ganga as part of Prime Minister Modi’s Clean India Mission.
The Uttar Pradesh BJP Chief Laxmikanth Bajpai condemned the act of the ADM as ‘unpardonable’ and asked the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to suspend the official.
“It is an unpardonable offence and a condemnable act. The entire country led by the PM is working towards cleaning Ganga and Yamuna while this official has shown disrespect to the holy river as well as the sentiments of the people. The DM, Allahabad should immediately take action against him. I also urge UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to suspend this official,” Bajpai was quoted by Hindustan Times.
Bajpai also added that he will send the images and the video of the regretful act of ADM to the union water resource, river development and Ganga rejuvenation minister Uma Bharati and to the Prime Minister.
In the meanwhile, ADM Shrivastav, after coming to know that his video is going viral, first denied the allegation saying “I was only washing my hands and adjusting my trousers. I was standing 10 to 20 feets away from the river”. But later he came out with a statement citing that he is a patient and regrets for what happened. “I deeply regret the act. I am diabetic and could not control myself,” he said.
Sanjay Kumar, District magistrate, Allahabad said that he has initiated an inquiry into the incident and chief development officer, Allahabad Atal Rai has been asked to submit a report on the same. “I will act after getting his report,” he added.
