The incident came to public notice after dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi’s Facebook post went viral.
A woman hailing from Kerala’s Thrissur district was allegedly gang-raped by four men and reportedly humiliated by the police officials in order to change her statement.
National-award winning dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi along with gang-rape survivor and her husband held a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram in which the victim described the shocking incidents.
The victim alleged that CPI(M) leader and Vadakkanchery municipal councilor Jayanthan and three others namely -Bineesh, Jineesh and Shibu raped her and threatened her claiming that the whole incident had been video graphed.
The soul-shaking story came to public notice after Bhagyalakshmi’s Facebook post about the incident went viral and the Kerala Chief Minister’s office promised action and asked her to reveal the names of the culprits.
Before narrating the shocking incident, Bhagyalakshmi wrote that what she is about to reveal is not a film story. “I am narrating this after proper investigation. One day, a woman called me. She was crying. When I asked her who she was, she said that she wanted to meet me,” Bhagyalakshmi wrote.
The victim told Bhagyalakshmi that she is a mother of two kids and her husband was an alcoholic. One day, when her husband was in a de-addiction center, four of his friends came to her saying that her husband was admitted to a hospital. They allegedly asked her to go along with them. As they were familiar to her, the victim didn’t sense trouble so she followed them to the hospital. However, they took her to a house in a remote corner and gang-raped.
The victim’s husband came to know about the incident after three months and asked her to file a complaint. When the couple went to file the complaint, the police officers allegedly asked lewd questions including ‘’Who gave you more pleasure?,’ and after many humiliations, she was forced to change her statement before the court.
“They threatened to kill my children if I spoke out the truth. When the magistrate asked me if there was any pressure on me, I cried,” said the victim, who appeared before the media along with her husband with their faces covered.
“I will reveal more truth to the chief minister,” she added.
However, the accused Jayanthan denied all the allegations and said that the woman and her husband are fabricating against him because of some other financial disputes. CPI (M) said the party would inquire about the issue and take action against Jayanthan if he is found guilty.
