Newly revamped resorts such as the Noor Mahal Palace Hotel are getting popular for Punjabi American destination weddings
By Akanksha Dean
A weekend trip to the city of Karnal near Punjab turned out to be an eye-opener. Newly revamped luxury properties in the city are not just serving as popular destinations for locals for special occasions, but are also major NRI hotspots.
According to hospitality professionals here, a lot of Indian Americans with roots in Punjab like returning here to host momentous occasions like marriages and reunions with their long lost families back in India.
My stay at the Noor Mahal Palace Hotel turned out to be a beautiful culmination of witnessing a splendid property in small city India along with seeing the joy of families from across the continents getting together.
The property does perfect justice to such moments full of nostalgia. The architectural detailing is like a royal palace within this imposing building; complete with elaborate ceilings and wooden doors.

Each aspect has been vigilantly thought about: gold twangs shadow you from the lift to the pool. The sitting zone in the lobby looks like a modest film set.
It’s framed by a stunning chandelier that makes a grand first impression upon entering. Whimsical patterns highlight draperies, and ornate crystal chandeliers catch the light on sunny afternoons.
Artwork, Picture frames and Neoclassical features also feature throughout and there are fresh flowers everywhere. Regency styling lingers to the rooms, with carpets and large beds adorned in beautiful patterned covers that match the curtains, cushions and canopies. It feels antiquated yet timeless.
The hotel is an admired wedding spot but it’s vast enough so as not to intrude on other guests.

Food and drink
The “Frontier Mail” restaurant is a thoroughly Instagram-able space, the design of which is inspired by the legendary train that operated between Mumbai and Peshawar during pre-independence days with features taken from the actual train.
The menu encompasses cuisines from the districts through which the train made its original journey. Breakfast at “Brown Sugar,” the all-day dining is also spot-on – a buffet of cereals, fruits, eggs, south and north Indian delights followed by a selection of tempting à la carte options.
The food tastes as good as it looks. Juice, tea and coffee is served to table. Afternoon tea can be served on the terrace as you watch the sunset.
For an eclectic collection of fine spirits, cognacs and cigars meant for the aficionado, head to ‘Polo Bar’, a colonial style English bar to unwind crafting impeccable character for delightful evenings.

What makes it a wedding favorite?
This palace hotel offers a distinguished and familiar culture feel, regal experience with contemporary extravagance summarizing the very best a flawless destination has to offer.
Sprawling over ten acres, Noor Mahal is an idyllic location for meetings, off-sites, business events, seminars and most certainly weddings.
With 16 striking banquet halls, state of the art conference rooms, with matchless services and focused service, the palace hotel has gained the status of holding the best weddings and is fast evolving as the next big MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) terminus in India.
But what makes it a special draw with NRIs also is that it is a one stop shop for all bridal necessities as it trails an original style in keeping up with the phases and posing guests swerving and tailored wedding experiences.
The mix of magnificent luxury and the opulent up-to-date warmth makes this gorgeous palace a fantasy terminus to take marriage oaths and plan unforgettable celebrations.
