Women have been quoted as saying that they were severely molested and groped on the streets.
Bengaluru city witnessed a horrific scene as women were molested during the New Year celebrations at MG Road and Brigade Road on the night of 31st December.
Despite “elaborate” security arrangements, women were molested, and children scared out of their wits, while male friends and relatives had a tough time protecting them from unruly men. And all this happened despite the 1,500 policemen deployed in the area, Bangalore Mirror reports.
The news paper also shared the images of the incidents clicked by their photojournalists out on MG Road and Brigade Road.
Women have been quoted as saying that they were severely molested and groped on the streets, out in open and in police presence.
“Women were being accosted by young men. Cops chased the group but they returned to the spot. Women weeped and ran towards women cops. They were forced to run on the street. Cops’ actions were limited as women were also a part of the group,” Times Now quoted a working professional who was walking towards MG road.
The police, however, claimed that they had not received any complaints.
“No distress calls were made. We did not receive a single call, complaining of molestation, at the city control room. No one approached cops and no case of molestation has been registered,” Sandeep Patil, Former Deputy Commissioner (Central) and Nagendra Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Command Centre, told to Times Now.
